Ann Escosa Griffin is challenging Republican Senator Martha McSally for the nomination in Arizona’s special election to fill the remainder of the late Senator John McCain’s term this coming August. The state has open primaries which make this nomination highly competitive; Democrats who re-register as Independents following Arizona’s March 17th Presidential Preference Primary can easily participate in Griffin’s campaign. Ms. Griffin believes that as a progressive with support from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents she has a path to the nomination. If she succeeds, she will face former pilot and astronaut Mark Kelly, a newcomer to Arizona’s political landscape. Griffin is gathering signatures statewide at: http://go.azsos.gov/k5h5.
Ms. Griffin is a highly energetic, inspirational and motivational force and has a wealth of experience in public affairs. She co-founded Select Care, Inc. in Naperville, IL, a resource and referral agency for licensed daycare homes in the Western suburbs, La Fete Accompli in GA and FL, and Arizona’s Family Matters in 1997 in Flagstaff to address the issues of families in need.
Griffin began her political career as a Republican in a suburb of Chicago and is best described as an independent and thoughtful progressive. She is concerned about the toxic tenor of political discourse and the hyper-partisan nature of the “political arena” and is committed to working across the aisle to find solutions to the issues she cares deeply about. Ms. Griffin has been elected and appointed to office and has managed partisan and nonpartisan campaigns.
Ann is the granddaughter of Turkish-born Armenian immigrants, Pearl and Charles, and the daughter of Dorothy and Filipino-American, John Escosa, both professional musicians. Ann has a forty-five year record of service to others that began at age 10 with the Head Start program at Washington Elementary School in Fort Wayne, IN. Ann says, “I had no idea what I was doing. I just got on my blue bike and went down to the school to help.”
Ann attended Indiana University in the early ‘70’s, where her love of service blossomed. She served Arizonans as the Northern District Director of Junior Achievement, taught Special Education and Science at the middle school and college level. She and her husband, a child welfare attorney, maintained a therapeutic foster home for some of Arizona’s most vulnerable youth. Ms. Griffin’s website: arizonasfamilymatters.com
